OCIA - ORDER OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION FOR ADULTS AND CHILDREN
If you're curious about the Catholic Faith or have thought about becoming Catholic, the OCIA process (previously known as RCIA) may be for you.
WHAT IS OCIA?
OCIA is the Catholic Church's preferred method for welcoming new Catholics, and it's a way to complete the Initiation process for already baptized Catholics. It weaves instruction, prayer, community, and ritual into one process. To participate in OCIA, you may be baptized in another Christian denomination, or may practice in some other non-Christian faith tradition, but you now want to explore about becoming Catholic. Or you may be a currently baptized Catholic, but you have not received your other Sacraments of Initiation of Holy Communion or Confirmation. All Catholics desiring to learn more about their Catholic faith are welcomed to join us to participate, or you can also sponsor a new candidate.
The OCIA weekly sessions begin on Sunday, September 15th, and we will meet each Sunday (except weeks of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years) until Pentecost Sunday, 2025.
Sessions will meet in the OLGC Large Conference Room from 8:15am - 9:40am.
There is no fee to participate in the OCIA process, as all class material will be provided.
We will focus on the History and Structure of the Church, Scripture, the Mass, the Sacraments, personal and group Prayer, and some basic theology of the Catholic Faith, as taught in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
There will be welcome/introduction sessions held in late August.
Please contact Deacon Larry Geinosky, (904) 657-6524, with any questions or if you may be interested in joining us as a candidate or sponsor.
