Our parish recently launched a Veterans’ Advisory Group. Over twenty “vets” are active in projects to enable parish military veterans and current military members to know and assist each other in parish life.
The Veterans’ Advisory Group has funded and established of a VETERANS’ MONUMENT PLAZA in our parish cemetery. The plaza consists of a “TRIBUTE TO A FELLOW COMRADE” plaque mounted upon a monument stone with a second military-style plaque “DEDICATED TO THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVED IN THE ARMED FORCES” on the back. The monument is set among a display of flags including the USA, the Vatican, each of the Military Services and the POW/MIA. There are two benches placed in the plaza for people to spend quiet time reflecting on their “special veterans.” Memorial pavers are available for honoring family veterans and/or military units. All are invited.
The Veterans Monument Plaza will be dedicated this Veteran’s Day which will be observed on Monday, November 12th. A Memorial Mass and Monument Blessing will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the outdoor altar in the parish cemetery. Please bring a folding chair for your personal comfort. A Celebration Brunch will follow in Pod 1 at the main Church. All are welcome.
